Local, sustainably sourced hardwood: Maple, beech, birch, ash, oak and on occasion spruce, which is not a hardwood but has some lovely properties.

Over the last several decades I’ve built and nurtured relationships with several environmentally conscious, local landowners. This allows me to carefully & ethically source all of the wood I use in my work. When possible, I always select wood from trees that have fallen naturally due to age, disease or severe weather events. This means, I’m often giving a second life to trees that have already died, rather than harvesting new wood.

A burl is an unusual type of growth pattern that occurs when environmental stress impacts a tree, some people refer to the process kind of like an oyster making a pearl. Due to the rarity, and fact that each burl is totally unique and can take up to 50 years to mature, a piece made from burl wood is truly one-of-a-kind.
Highly sought after, burl wood is often used to make veneer for furniture, watches, and artistic vessels like you’ll find here.

Different finishes are applied by hand to enhance the natural beauty of the wood and provide durability for a long wearing end result.
For salad & fruit bowls I use a mix of food grade walnut oil & beeswax to finish the piece so it holds up well to normal wear and tear, without the use of any chemicals whatsoever.
For all other pieces, I use a french polish finish, which involves mixing non-toxic, natural shellac with food grade walnut oil, and applying by hand.

Our pieces age very well, and with a simple routine, will be in perfect condition to pass down to future generations as a family heirloom.
For display pieces, simply wipe away any dust with a clean microfiber cloth. Display out of harsh direct sunlight to ensure the coluor doesn’t fade in an uneven fashion.
For salad bowls, please hand wash after use with warm water and a gentle detergent. A few times per year (more if you use it very frequently) rub a thin layer of food grade walnut oil into the bowl (inside and out) to restore luster and shine.
